Abstract
The future of ink doesn’t have to be toxic. In 2013, Scott Fulbright and Steve Albers were conducting biofuels and biomaterials research at Colorado State University when they learned that most printing ink is petroleum based. But what if a “greener” alternative existed? Inspired, they founded Living Ink, a biomaterials company on a mission to disrupt the pigment industry. As of 2023, Algae Black, a non-toxic, sustainable, carbon-negative alternative to the petroleum-based pigment Carbon Black, has already been adopted by some of the biggest brands out there. In this webinar, Living Ink co-founder Scott Fulbright, Ph.D., will share how Algae Black went from nothing more than an idea to the flagship product powering a successful startup. He’ll discuss the past, present, and future of Living Ink and insights gained along the way, such as:
- What it takes to transition from grad school to entrepreneurship
- How the grant-writing and fundraising process works
- How to get from prototype to minimal viable product
- How Living Ink plans to scale up operations in the future
